On January 15th, 2009, 150 passengers and 5 crew members boarded Flight 1549, heading from New York City to Charlotte. The plane was in the air for about 90 seconds before a flock of Canada geese struck both engines. What happened next could only be described as a miracle – the flight landed in the Hudson River with Captain Chelsey Sullenberger and First Officer Jeffrey Skiles at the helm. Everyone survived and now the infamous Miracle on the Hudson plane.
Now housed at the Carolinas Aviation Museum in Charlotte, visitors can see the plane up close and learn about how that day affected the 155 people on board. Passengers also regularly speak at the museum.
Carolinas Aviation Museum is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It’s located at 4672 First Flight Drive. Admission is $12 for adults.
